From my many visits, I found that Montreal’s creative spirit shines through its hotels too. From boutique hideaways in Old Montreal to Insta-worthy sleek modern towers with rooftop views, these are my favorite unique places I’ve stayed in the city….
1. Auberge du Vieux-Port
This boutique hotel won me over with its exposed stone walls and vintage character, but its chic modern design and prime Old Montreal waterfront setting completely sealed the deal!
It had rustic-chic decor with striking brick and stone walls, beamed ceilings, pine flooring, and elegant vintage-inspired furnishings, creating a warm, romantic, and sophisticated feel that made my stay feel extra special!
With a wrought-iron bed, Marie’s L’Oie Pillow-Top Mattresses, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and a modern bathroom with a multi‑jet glass shower and upscale Le Labo toiletries, my guest room was also a beauty – but the large arched warehouse windows which showcased the St. Lawrence River were the stand-out feature for me!
Before leaving, I sat around a cozy fire pit with a watermelon martini in hand while gazing at the skyline rooftop terrace and explored the central Old Montreal just outside the door where I was just steps from the waterfront, lively cafés, boutique shops, and Notre-Dame Basilica.

The rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to enjoy a Vieux-Port Sour — a velvety blend of local rye, fresh lemon, and a hint of maple syrup — while taking in the stunning views of the Saint Lawrence River!
2. Hotel Epik
I couldn’t help but fall for this design-forward hideaway—set in a restored 18th-century building with only 10 uniquely designed modern rooms, it offered me a very intimate, highly personalized stay!
I adored its contemporary-chic look—there were exposed stone walls, striking wood timber beams, driftwood tables, and retro-modern furniture that made the space feel intimate, stylish, and effortlessly upscale.
My guest room cleverly combined traditional and modern design complete with a cozy fireplace, a cushioned leather bed covered in crisp white linens, a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a trendy Nespresso coffee maker, and my favorite feature which were the striking floor-to-ceiling windows which overlooked the quaint, cobblestone streets below.
I started my mornings with a complimentary gourmet breakfast in the cozy stone-walled bistro, and my evenings ended with traditional Italian dishes on the hidden patio, all in a fabulous central Old Montreal was I was very near the waterfront, trendy restaurants, and gorgeous boutique shops!

- Sipping a light Chardonnay from Les Vignerons de Belœil in their rustic stone-walled, cozy wine cellar felt as it felt all very Old Town Montreal!
3. Hotel Nelligan
For me, this elegant Old Montreal boutique hotel was a real standout—it was housed in a historic 19th-century building with charming character rooms and a fine rooftop terrace overlooking the city!
Inside, I discovered classic-meets-contemporary decor paying tasteful homage to celebrated Quebec poet Émile Nelligan, with framed portraits and his quotations on the walls, dark wood and red leather furnishings, and original century-old stone and exposed brick that made the space feel both romantic and nostalgic.
With a queen bed dressed in crips, white high-thread-count linens, an exposed brick accent wall, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and a marble-accented bathroom, my guest room was gorgeous—but the French windows opening to an elegant wrought-iron balcony personally stole the show for me!
I sipped cocktails on the rooftop terrace at sunset over Old Montreal and the St. Lawrence River, and enjoyed creative European-Canadian cuisine at the onsite French Restaurant and Verses Bistro—just steps from the waterfront and historic landmarks.

4. Humaniti Hotel
I was a big fan of this new lifestyle hotel, which combined cutting-edge architecture and sleek contemporary design with curated art installations, a rooftop pool, and a holistic, wellness-focused atmosphere!
The modern minimalist decor, with its clean lines, bold geometric accents, raw concrete pillars, marble-inspired floors and walls, curated contemporary art, and nature-inspired sculptures, made for a striking geometry-themed space that to me felt sleek and cosmopolitan.
I loved my spacious, light-filled guest room which came with a queen bed adorned in premium linens, dark wooden accents, pops of color, a smart TV, curated local artwork, air conditioning, and spa-style bathroom stocked with eco‑friendly BeeKind® bath products, while the floor-to-ceiling window showcased dazzling night views of the city (which was my favorite feature)!
I relaxed by the rooftop pool with stunning city views before ending the night with a hand-crafted Mont Royal Mule in the chic lounge, knowing I had three upscale restaurants, a café, a bar overlooking outdoor sculptures, a 9th-floor terrace, a fitness center, a modern spa, and a charming gift shop all at my fingertips – as well as a prime downtown Montreal location just a short stroll from Old Montreal and the Quartier des Spectacles.

- The handy “Humaniti Experience” app – it was awesome how it let me set my room’s lighting, temperature, and music, and even order a fresh poke bowl with avocado and spicy aioli to my door—pure VIP treatment!
5. Hotel Monville
This sleek, modern high-rise boutique stood out to me for its hi-tech urban vibe and uber-stylish design, with warm black-and-white tones, oak accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows that gave it a distinctly cosmopolitan feel!
My guest room came with a king-sized platform bed, wood-paneled accent walls, subtle recessed lighting, a rainfall shower, a Nespresso machine, a flat-screen TV with Netflix, Wi-Fi, and a smart, space-efficient layout. The coolest feature though, was the delivery robot—a retro Roomba-style helper—that brought room service right to my door!
From the rooftop lounging complete with incredible city views to tasty bites and hand-crafted cocktails at the café, restaurant, and stylish bar, and also other amenities such as the outdoor terrace, gym, and a pet-friendly policy—this hotel had me covered!
Its International District location was also perfect—I could reach the Convention Centre and Underground City with a quick walk.

- Their Jazz Night was the perfect finale to a day of exploring, with soulful sax solos, smooth piano riffs, and a crisp cucumber-infused gin martini garnished with fresh mint!
6. Le Mount Stephen
This luxury boutique hotel completely won me over with its striking contrast between the opulent 1880s mansion façade and its ultra-modern, high-tech rooms!
The decor cleverly mixed opulent heritage details such as marble floors, ornate woodwork, and crystal chandeliers and futuristic modern luxury, creating a glamorous but very unique vibe that I couldn’t get enough of!
With an ultra-modern look, floor-to-ceiling windows, a truly sumptuous king-sized bed, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, an HDTV with complimentary Netflix, touch-panel lighting, a designer Nespresso machine, and a marble bathroom with heated floors and a rainfall shower, my room was actually Insta-worthy (seriously!). I especially loved that bathroom’s glass walls turned opaque at the touch of a button – it was a cool touch!
I sipped cocktails and enjoyed inventive, upscale British-inspired dishes (with a Quebec twist!) in the hotel’s chic Bar George and really enjoyed its prestigious Golden Square Mile location—I was just a short walk from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, McGill University, and upscale shopping along Sherbrooke Street.

- I loved unwinding in their charming library, surrounded by an eclectic mix of books – I read “The History of Montreal” by Paul-André Linteau while savoring a creamy oat-milk maple latte and maple pecan shortbread cookies!
7. Hotel William Gray
I thought this luxury boutique aparthotel was so unique – it seamlessly combined two restored 18th-century heritage buildings with a sleek glass atrium, creating a wow-inducing fusion of Old Montreal’s history and contemporary luxury!
Inside, I found chic, modern decor with clean lines, warm wood accents, exposed stone walls, and curated contemporary artwork that subtly nodded to the neighborhood’s historic charm.
My room featured a white-bedded platform bed, mid-century bentwood chairs, mustard yellow wingback armchairs, and long sleek tables, but my favorite detail was the separate soaking tub where I could relax while gazing at the waterfront and Ferris wheel at the same time – bonus!
I spent my time unwinding on the rooftop terrace which had incredible city views, indulging in the modern full-service spa, and dining at Maggie Oakes where the dishes were as beautiful as they were delicious, enjoying the stylish lobby bar, downing a Caffè Corretto in the cozy Italian-style coffee shop and fully enjoying its very charming central Old Montreal location!

- Dining on a fresh mushroom and arugula vegan pizza made from farm-to-table ingredients on their rooftop while gazing at stunning views of the iconic Notre-Dame Basilica!
8. W Hotel
This sleek, design-focused luxury hotel stood out to me for its bold, fashion-forward style and lively, party-meets-luxury atmosphere set inside a characterful repurposed historic bank building.
I loved the dramatic mix of chandelier and futuristic lighting, geometric textiles, touches of neon, and playful touches recalling its bank-building past, it all felt wonderfully glamorous, energetic, and very social too!
With a signature W bed, high-tech entertainment, an ergonomic chair, well-stocked minibar, temperature control, flat-screen TV, and mood lighting, my funky, spacious room was already impressive—but the standout for me was the glass-enclosed rainfall shower positioned dramatically in the middle!
From sipping creative cocktails at the vibrant Bartizen lounge to working out in the 24/7 FIT gym and joining lively events, I loved how this hotel buzzed like a nonstop social hotspot right in downtown Montreal!

Indulging in the incredible W Relaxation Ritual—a 90-minute facial which used calming botanicals including lavender, chamomile, and eucalyptus warm aromatic compresses and a jade-roller serum massage!
9. LHotel
I thought this eclectic Old Montreal boutique hotel was a total gem, with its impressive 19th-century architecture and an eye-catching pop art collection (featuring icons such as Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Chagall), all wrapped in a creative, stylish, and slightly whimsical vibe!
My guest room had high ceilings, large windows, luxury bedding, a work desk, a flat-screen TV, and unique art pieces that gave it lashings of personality! I especially loved the original bank vault doors and oversized pop art canvases that made it photogenic and very memorable.
I spent my time wandering the art-filled hallways, relaxing in the cozy lobby lounge, and sipping on a Matisse Martini in the intimate bar before heading out to explore the atmospheric cobblestone streets of Old Montreal!

10. Hotel St.Thomas
This 23-room luxury boutique hotel made my list for its intimate heritage setting, and how it combined old-world charm with personalized modern luxury and attentive concierge service.
The modern, art-infused decor featured tasteful patterned wallpaper, lashings of greenery, marble-effect floors, and elegant lighting, giving each space a bold character within a historic backdrop. I loved how it felt refined yet welcoming— to me it felt like an effortlessly creative boutique experience!
My guest room came with handmade furniture, sumptuous velvet chairs, matte black steel and gold accents, unconventional artwork, and my favorite features – a whirlpool bathtub, a balcony, yoga mat, and Montreal-made organic and vegan bath products!
I enjoyed the hearty breakfast and lounge treats, all-day coffee, borrowed complimentary bikes to explore the neighborhood, relaxed in the serene spa and wellness center just a short walk away (which also had a Turkish steam bath, plunge pool, lounge, and outdoor terrace), and sipped on zesty cocktails in the cozy bar—all in the heart of buzzing downtown Montreal!

- Sipping on the refreshing prosecco welcome drink which came served in a delicate crystal flute while admiring the elegant grand staircase in the lobby – it was the perfect introduction to my stay!
11. Hotel 10
I admired how this contemporary boutique hotel in downtown Montreal combined sleek modern architecture with its original early 20th-century concrete-and-steel framework, all accented by eye-catching local artwork that wonderfully celebrated the city’s creative soul.
In soft gray, cream, and pink, accented with black-and-white shots of sculptures and landscapes, I really liked how the ultra-modern interiors had a cool, cultured vibe—modern yet warm, it felt like staying in an art gallery but with the wonderful luxuries of a high-end hotel!
My suite came with premium bedding, a 55-inch flat-screen TV, a Nespresso machine, a full kitchen with coffee-making facilities, a glass-walled spa-style bathroom, and individual temperature control—but my favorite detail was the spa-like bathroom complete with bathrobes and designer H2O-branded toiletries.
I enjoyed sipping coffee and wine at the stylish Bar 20, working out in the well-equipped 24-hour gym, unwinding in the modern, full-service spa, and using the excellent concierge services, which included handy electric car charging and valet parking.

12. Hotel Gault
I was a big fan of this minimalist, design-forward boutique aparthotel, which had a seamless blend of industrial-contemporary loft design tucked away inside a beautifully preserved stone building.
I really enjoyed the industrial-chic look—minimalist furnishings, exposed brick or concrete accents, neutral tones, polished concrete floors, Eames chairs, and soaring ceilings—that gave the space a quiet but ultra-modern and artsy feel.
My suite had a grey-and-white minimalist design, high ceilings, wood cabinets, local artwork, a loaner iPad, designer Flou bedding, a heated bathroom floor, high-speed Wi-Fi, a well-equipped kitchenette with a Nespresso coffee station, and a sleek bathroom with heated floors.
I curled up by the lobby fireplace, sipped espresso from the café, and enjoyed a breakfast of fruit, crepes, and pastries at the Gault restaurant—all in a prime Old Montreal location with spa access and dog-friendly stays.

With a monochrome palette, Venetian-plastered walls, Turkish travertine floors, Italian walnut colonnade, and bold textiles, I really liked how the decor felt serene but undeniably stylish—a true design-focused urban escape!
My spacious room featured Egyptian cotton linens, cute loveseats, bright pops of color, framed historical Vogue covers, and herringbone flooring, but my favorite feature was the large marble bathroom which came with a spa-like jetted tub.
I spent my time lingering in the lobby’s “Cabinet of Curiosities,” relaxing on the rooftop terrace with a Maple Old Fashioned, and enjoying the on-site restaurant’s outdoor dining and stylish lounge.

- Stepping into my guest room and being greeted by fresh white lilies and the warm, woody aroma of sandalwood, which instantly made it feel like a luxurious home-away-from-home!
14. Hôtel Uville
I stayed at this playful, nostalgia-fueled boutique hotel and thought it was a groovy gem for its celebration of Montreal’s 1960s–70s design and culture through its creative, retro-infused rooms.
I loved how the statement wallpapers, vintage furnishings, record players, and nostalgic film and photography accents gave the decor a charmingly retro, creative vibe with an intimate, artful feel.
My thematic guest room doubled as a mini time capsule, lined with vintage photos, quirky artifacts, and films from the National Film Board, avocado-green furniture, hypoallergenic bedding, a memory foam bed, a rainfall shower with a hydromassage showerhead, and my favorite—a retro turntable complete with awesome vinyl records!
I started my day with a complimentary breakfast delivered to my door to enjoy on the go, then wandered to the lobby’s cozy bar for my morning ristretto and returned later for an evening cocktail set amid the vintage decor—all in a wonderful Old Montreal location just steps from the Old Port and Place d’Youville Park!

- I couldn’t get enough of the artisanal complimentary snacks – the lavender honey shortbread, chai-spiced oatmeal, and maple pecan with sea salt cookies with ripe strawberries dipped in dark chocolate were a super-cute touch!
15. Le Petit Hotel
This petite, design-savvy 28-room boutique hotel really won me over with its stylish modern comforts, European architectural charm, and just the right amount of quirky character!
With its striking stone walls, white armchairs, black lacquer counters, flower-shaped lamps, and 60s-style pops of color, as well as a front desk moonlighting as a café barista station serving up all-day espressos, I personally thought the decor felt intimate and effortlessly cool—like staying in a curated urban gallery!
My bright, contemporary room featured exposed stone walls, dark furnishings, premium bedding with Marie L’Oie pillows and a luxury duvet, a flat-screen TV, and an upscale spa-like bathroom complete with Le Labo toiletries and a hydromassage shower. I particularly loved the trendy retro-drum lighting and mini guitar-amp Bluetooth speakers!
I dined on an excellent continental breakfast and sipped a silky maple-infused oat-milk latte, all while enjoying the tucked-away location right on Saint-Paul Street in Old Montreal, with handy access to an off-site fitness facility at a sister hotel too – nice!
