Top 15 Cool And Unique Hotels In Copenhagen

Wherever you stay, you will live the fairy tale in the utopia-like capital of Copenhagen. From my many trips to this elegant city (one of my favorite cities in the world!) and staying and trying out many hotels, here is the final collection of my favorites…

1. Hotel Axel

Mesteren & Lærlingen bar in Meatpacking district in Copenhagen
Mesteren & Lærlingen – I found a lively local bar in Copenhagen’s trendy Meatpacking District — it was just an 8-minute walk from where I was staying in the Hotel Axel Guldsmeden!

I completely fell for this eco-friendly boutique in hip Vesterbro because its Scandi-meets-Balinese décor—carved teak furniture, softly glowing lanterns, rattan accents, and a warm sandalwood incense scent—gave it a romantic, sanctuary-like vibe that felt far more like a serene boho retreat than a typical Copenhagen hotel!

My compact but beautiful Superior Double Room came with four-poster teak bed, wide-plank oak floors, exposed brickwork Persian rugs, and a minibar which came with organic sea-salt kale chips. I dined on freshly baked sourdough in the all-organic restaurant, sipped on rooibos tea in the zen courtyard garden, took out the bamboo-framed loaner bikes, and relaxed with a lava-stone back ritual in the atmospheric spa (I just found it was got busy at peak times)!

My favourite highlights…

2. Manon Les Suites

This unique all-suite gem actually felt like being dropped into a tropical rainforest lagoon in the middle of Copenhagen, with its dramatic jungle-lined atrium and an insanely photogenic turquoise pool framed by bamboo, palms and ambient music!

My gorgeous Superior Suite came with a teak four-poster bed draped in gauzy white curtains, funky geometric cushions, dark-teak furniture, a matte-black vintage phone, and a sleek kitchenette. I relaxed on the floating daybeds, hit the sauna and gym, tucked into an organic granola breakfast and enjoyed vegan caviar on the rooftop at the Asian-fusion restaurant run by Michelin-starred Nan Kanokwan Kortaisong.

My personal highlights…

  • The quirky glass panel in my suite looked straight into the greenery below, and with the warm, humid air drifting up and the faint sound of water from the atrium giving it a unique ‘tropical treehouse’ feel!

3. Carlton 66 Guldsmeden

I found this cosy eco-luxury boutique in trendy Vesterbro – it was a striking combination of Scandi-chic design and boho Balinese touches with a soulful, calm vibe, carved teak accents, woven rattan lamps, and hand-dyed textiles. My Deluxe Double Room had a four-poster bed draped in white muslin, organic cotton bedding, honey-toned hardwood floors, and a little balcony overlooking the pastel-colored townhouses of Vesterbro.

I started my day with homemade rye bread topped with avocado at the all-organic veggie breakfast, sipped on a zesty elderflower–lime spritz at the cosy 66 Bar, snapped photos of the retro Airstream campervans, and unwound in the candlelit spa with its cedar-scented sauna and hot tub! Just note that there were no lifts.

My highlights…

  • Their organic open-faced sandwich, with warm marinated tofu, smoky roasted peppers, and a silky dill-flecked mayo!

4. CPH Living

My picture of Christianshavn Canal – taken near where I staying at CPH Living!

This was such a unique stay permanently moored in Copenhagen’s harbour — a floating, ultra-modern boutique hotel with clean Nordic décor, pale oak floors, and sleek steel accents — it felt like a cross between a modern houseboat and a chic Copenhagen loft! My standard double room had floor-to-ceiling harbour-facing windows, a Nordic bed, and warm oak flooring – the entire room seemed to “float,” with the gentle sway of the water (there was just limited storage).

I loved starting my mornings on the sunny rooftop deck with a cinnamon-spiced kardemommebolle and an iced almond latte, and ending my evenings with a blueberry-infused vodka soda on the floating terrace as the city lights shimmered on the water!

This central 4-star boutique with Martin Brudnizki–designed interiors was an eclectic gem near iconic Nyhavn with velvet sofas, playful patterned wallpapers, vintage curios and quirky Wes-Anderson-style touches, giving it a playful, creative energy but wasn’t intimidating, just like the staff! Although the very bold design might not suit everyone.

My double room had a funky, retro look with a cork-panel feature wall, a patterned curved headboard, zigzag-print lamps, and quirky mismatched art, all warmed by blonde wood floors, I loved the “Do Not Disturb” lightbox built into the wall! I sipped a basil–citrus gin cocktail, enjoyed live music at Boilerman Bar, spun 70s soul vinyl in the Vinyl Room, explored on the loaner e-bikes, and unwound in the Finnish sauna.

My shot of the colorful Nyhavn waterfront — I took this just steps from 71 Nyhavn Hotel in Copenhagen!

This charming Nyhavn boutique made me feel like I was living in Copenhagen’s maritime history – housed in a beautifully preserved 1800s warehouse, it came with heritage walls, slanted attic ceilings, and those dreamy harbour views!

My Executive Double Room in the historic Red Warehouse had a gorgeous attic-style feel with huge 200-year-old oak beams, wooden floors, a cosy mid-century seating nook, and luxury touches such as a black Nespresso machine, soft Meyers organic-cotton bathrobes, and a turndown service. I started my day with an Ønsk Coffee and a warm grilled tomato-and-herb skillet in the atmospheric old-warehouse cellar dining room, used their personal guide service and explored on their handy bike rental!

I headed to Islands Brygge and discovered this dreamy eco-luxury hideaway, where the Bali-meets-Scandi design with carved teak, hand-loomed textiles, soft draped fabrics made me feel like I’d escaped to a zen-like island sanctuary right in Copenhagen (although I had to cross a bridge for the main attractions)!

My Double Room was just as dreamy with hardwood floors, a teak four-poster draped in floaty white fabric, hypoallergenic linens, and big warehouse-style windows and and a super photogenic freestanding stone basin vanity right in the room! I relaxed with a Balinese Coconut Body Polish in the leafy courtyard spa, slipped between the hot tub, sauna, steam room, cold-plunge tub, and the zen-like garden with its cabanas and heated pool and ended my stay with Passionfruit Basil Spritz at the boho bar!

I thought this elegant 4-star eco-friendly boutique in trendy Vesterbro had such a gorgeous Paris-meets-Copenhagen vibe—with dreamy blue tones, rattan textures, and vintage touches—that it felt calm, quietly stylish, and more like staying in a chic little neighbourhood gem than a typical hotel!

My double room had a fresh, modern Nordic look with soothing ocean-blue walls, a slatted wooden headboard, a rattan-front cabinet, all brightened by a big window with a cute little café-style bench that made the perfect photogenic “Parisian breakfast nook.” I started my morning with a velvety Slayer espresso in the leafy Parisian-style courtyard before borrowing one of their mint-green bikes, and later I returned to their cosy wine bar with its 30-plus bottles—including organic picks!

My Deluxe Double Room had a mid-century Danish look with oak floors, original teak furniture, and iconic Arne Jacobsen– and Hans Wegner–style pieces, including caramel Swan- and Egg-style chairs set beside tall wraparound sash windows.  I bought Lakrids salted liquorice from the cute Honesty Bar enjoyed a veggie bánh mì breakfast at the attached Le Le Street Kitchen and curled up Arne Jacobsen: The Idea of Design in their Danish design library.
